We are currently scheduling events for Autumn 2019 and Spring 2020. If you have an idea for a book-related event — a speaking engagement or something nontraditional and subversive — please don’t hesitate to come to us with your thoughts.
When We Were Arabs summer launch events across the United States were a great success, thanks to engaged readers with beautiful minds, who shared their stories with me. I made friends with quite a lot of people. New York and D.C. events were sold out and people crammed into — in D.C.’s case, especially — very spacious venues to break bread, discuss the book, and offer their own stories and hopes for a decolonial and integral future. These weren’t traditional book talks — they were parties in the Arab tradition, in some cases, with the intention of building connective tissue between and energy among revolutionary minds.
Also, in Los Angeles, I prepared an exhaustive menu of pan-Arab foods. As in, I was exhausted after all the cooking.
